RIYADH: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5-11 on Wednesday.

The authority’s decision to approve the vaccine for the age group is based on data provided by the company that demonstrates that the vaccine meets special regulatory requirements.

Clinical studies and reports to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine for this age group were also considered.

Over 46 million doses of a COVID-19 jab have been administered in the Kingdom to date.
